we are everywhere
we are women of an invisible age
a certain uncomfortable station
we appear for each other’s
desperate hours, reach out
a hand and our eyes
offer what we have
and what we don’t

WTF
this morning TheGoogle
asked me if I was
over 40 and single
the assholes!
then the weather underground
did the same god-damned thing
asked me if I was
over 40 and single
the assholes!
then the weather underground
did the same god-damned thing

quick bread afternoon

Tom Petty and I made pumpkin loaf.
I handled the flour and the expressive eggs.
He handled the bad-ass singing and tried
to distract me by pouring too much milk
in the first batch and hiding the thawed
squash for the second. I was so flustered
by the time they went into the oven
that I left him alone in the house with the
baking loaves while I went to town.

my dichotomy
old dog brush
the hillbilly and the scot
conspire inside of me
endeavor to remind me
be happy with what I have
no need to be uppity
some sin this morning
was called to account
and I held the evidence
in my hands - yet another old broken
hair brush (this from my handbag)
now I am left with just the one
the one in my bathroom drawer
the one I use every day before I bathe
the one that hurts like hell
sends metal spikes into my scalp
tearing the knots of my growing
